Seeing your baby’s face for the first time during an ultrasound is one of the most exciting moments of pregnancy. At Belly Vue Center, we want to make sure you get the clearest, most detailed images possible, whether it’s tiny fingers and toes or those adorable facial expressions. Here are our top tips to help you prepare for your ultrasound and make it an unforgettable experience:
Stay Hydrated
Drinking plenty of water in the days leading up to your ultrasound can make a huge difference in image quality. Hydration helps keep the amniotic fluid clear, allowing us to capture sharper, more defined images of your baby.
Tip: Start increasing your water intake about 3-5 days before your appointment. Aim for 6–8 glasses of water a day for the best results!
Eat a Light Snack Before Your Session
If you’re far enough along (2nd or 3rd trimesters) to see detailed movements, a light snack about 30-minutes before your ultrasound can sometimes help wake baby up. A little natural sugar, like fruit or juice, may encourage movement so we can capture fun, active moments.
Tip: Avoid heavy meals or caffeine right before your session, as they may make you feel bloated, dehydrated, or uncomfortable.
Wear Comfortable Clothing
We want you to feel relaxed during your session, so choose clothing that’s easy to adjust for access to your belly. A two-piece outfit (like shorts/leggings and a top) works best.
Tip: Pick a cozy spot in your home where you’d like to enjoy your ultrasound experience. Feel free to add a blanket or small pillow for added comfort during your session!
Schedule at the Right Time
The best time for a 3D/4D ultrasound is between 26–34 weeks of pregnancy.
26–30 weeks: Great for seeing facial features and movements if you’re hoping for early peeks.
31–34 weeks: Ideal for capturing chubby cheeks, clearer details, and sweet smiles.
Tip: If you’re expecting twins, earlier is better—around 24–28 weeks—since space gets tighter as babies grow.
Relax and Have Fun
Your ultrasound session is a chance to bond with your baby, so don’t stress! Take a few deep breaths and enjoy the experience. We’ll guide you through the process and do everything we can to get the best views.
Tip: Bring your partner, family, or friends to share the moment. It’s more fun with loved ones there!
Avoid Lotions and Oils
Skip lotions, oils, or creams on your belly for 24 hours before your session. These can create obstacles that may affect the quality of the ultrasound images.
Tip: If you’re prone to dry skin, apply lotion earlier in the week and skip it the day before your appointment.
Know What to Expect
While every baby is different, it helps to be prepared for the possibility that your baby might be camera-shy! Sometimes babies may have their hands or feet in front of their faces. If this happens, we’ll do our best to gently encourage baby to move into a better position.
Tip: Try drinking cold water or shifting positions during the session to get baby moving!
Cherish the Moment Forever
At Belly Vue Center, we know how important it is to capture these early memories. With a little preparation, you’ll get stunning images that you can treasure forever—whether you’re framing photos, sharing with loved ones, or adding keepsakes to your baby’s memory book.
